A routine traffic stop ended in two peole being charged with drugs offences.

A man and woman in their 20s face drug charges after Hamilton police uncovered what appeared to be a bag of marijuana during a routine traffic stop.

Hamilton police ACTION officers pulled over a car in the area of Wellington and Jackson streets around 8:30 p.m. Thursday over an expired validation sticker.

While police were speaking with the driver, an officer spotted the bag of marijuana, police said.

Police say they seized 26 grams of marijuana and “evidence consistent with drug trafficking” from the driver and a further smaller quantity of marijuana from a passenger.

Shabnam Mahmoodi-Hamidi, 24, of Caledonia is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

A 20-year-old Hamilton man faces a charge of possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana. He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
