Original news report

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, following a 5 day trial in Toronto’s Old City Hall, a City of Brampton bus driver was acquitted of Careless Driving and Failing to Yield to a Pedestrian. The charges stem from a fatal accident, at the Humberline and Finch Ave W in the northwest of Toronto, on July 28, 2014.

The lengthy trial included numerous eye witnesses, a Toronto Police Services detective and accident reconstructionist.

Gerald Shapiro, of XPolice Traffic Ticket Services, represented the driver, a senior member of the Amalgamated Transit Union.

Shapiro led a spirited defence. He successfully challenged the prosecution’s lead witness bringing into question the Accident Reconstruction Report and videos taken from the bus. The Court, once Shapiro had completed his defence, rightfully dismissed both charges.
